Allows Direct Winery-to-Trade Sales
Santa
Fe, NM - February 22, 2006 – The WineWeb has expanded its
electronic marketplace to foster the growth of direct winery-to-trade
sales. While several states allow wineries to sell direct to in-state
wine retailers and restaurants, a market for interstate wine sales
to the trade appears to be emerging. WineWeb.com’s online
trade portal allows restaurants and retailers to buy wine direct
from participating wineries.
"The
recent developments revolving around the Costco court case could
have a ripple effect across the W2T (winery to trade) market",
states Ron Kreutzer, WineWeb's founder. "This could be much
larger than direct wine shipments to consumers, the laws of which
are now rapidly changing. The WineWeb’s order processing
service is a cost-effective way to increase a winery’s sales
and visibility in the wine market”.
Wineries are
urged to participate in this emerging winery-to-trade market.
Restaurants and wine retailers are showing an interest in sourcing
wine from smaller wineries that are typically outside the traditional
wine distribution channels. Wineries can choose to ship direct,
where allowed by law, or their orders can be routed through a
wine fulfillment center that has distribution relationships in
a specific state.
